Pan-European Union
The history of the Pan-European Union, spanning more than a century, is closely associated with the names of distinguished individuals who have contributed to the development of the idea of European integration. During its first half-century, from 1922 to 1972, the Pan-European movement was led by Count Dr Richard Coudenhove-Kalergi. He was succeeded at the head of the International Pan-European Union by Dr Otto von Habsburg, who served as President from 1973 to 2004.
From 2004 to 2025, the International Pan-European Union was led by Dr Alain Terrenoire, and since 2025 the office of President has been held by Dr Pavo Barišić.
The International Pan-European Union, gathered at its General Assembly in Strasbourg on 10 December 1995, is faithfully adherant as a supra-national movement to the political ideas and ideals of its founder, Richard Coudenhove-Kalergi. Formulated by him for the first time in 1922, the vision of a Europe united in freedom, justice and peace, continues to apply unabated, even after the historic changes of the past few years.
