On 17 January 2019, the Pan-European Working Group of the EPP Group in the European Parliament in Strasbourg held a panel organised by the President of the Pan-European Working Group, MEP Lukas Mandl.
The topic entitled "Education in the Context of the Digital Age" was discussed by British MEP Julie Ward (Labour Party), German MEP Sabine Verheuyen (CDU), French education scientist Prof Andrea Young and Secretary General of the International Pan-European Union Prof Pavo Barišić.
"A united front in the world, a strong Europe on the outside, deregulation and freedom on the inside, as well as education in every conceivable respect are crucial for the future of all of us in Europe," emphasised Austrian MEP Lukas Mandl in his opening statement.
University professor and former minister of science and education of the Republic of Croatia Pavo Barišić spoke of a humanistic understanding of education as “lifelong forming and cultivation of the person” stressing the need to respect the preferences and gifts of every individual and warning of the dangers of “semi-education”.
