Regaining of Europe
The Pan-European Union of Hungary organised an international conference "Regaining of Europe: Challenges and dangers" on 9–11 September 2016 in the Imre Madách Cultural Centre in Vác.
The conference was organised under the high auspices of: Attila Fördős, mayor of the City of Vác, Miklós Beer, bishop of Roman Catholic Diocese of Vác, Miklós Soltész, State Secretary in the Ministry of Human Capacities, and Frank Spengler, director of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Hungary.
In the preamble of the conference was stated that the Pan-European Movement defines Hellenic democracy, Roman law, and Judeo-Christian spirituality as the basic pillars of European values. These fundamentals are challenged by current global megatrends including the migration to Europe. The ability of the European Union to protect our traditional values is in the centre of a lively discussion.
To resolve the crises, there is a need to restore the basics of European cooperation characterised by Christian solidarity and open dialogue. Political stakeholders’ should set their personal example of excellence. A conference dealing with these issues might give an impetus to this process.
